Encoder choices by size:

• Small (50-200): OBS Studio (free), ATEM Mini Pro (switcher + encoder combo, ~$595). Single platform.
• Mid-size (200-800): vMix Pro (~$1200), Wirecast ($695-$995), Pearl Mini (~$3000), Resi Render ($350+), BoxCast Bolt ($2500+). Multi-platform via Restream/Castr.
• Large (800+): vMix Pro on dedicated workstation, LiveU bonded cellular, Resi multi-site, BoxCast adaptive streaming, dedicated CDN.

Destinations: YouTube Live (most common), Facebook Live, Church Online Platform, Vimeo Live, Resi, BoxCast, custom RTMP.

Critical settings: 1080p30 or 720p30 at 4500-6000 kbps, audio 128-320 kbps at 48 kHz, keyframe 2sec. Upload speed needs 2x stream bitrate.

SRT vs RTMP: SRT more reliable on bad connections, lower latency. RTMP universal but less forgiving.

The #1 job: verify the stream is actually live before service starts. Open the destination platform in a separate browser and confirm.

Weekly prep cycle:

• Midweek: Confirm next Sunday's stream is scheduled in YouTube Studio/Facebook (some platforms expire events), update pre-stream graphics if needed, test backup internet, verify VOD upload from previous week worked
• Saturday: Create or confirm Sunday's stream key/event, verify destination platforms accepting connections, test encoder once
• Sunday morning: Boot up, verify signal in from switcher, set bitrate, load pre-stream graphics, go live, verify on platform

Cross-role coordination (Sunday morning):
